Interior Lighting, LED, Lighting Upgrade, Sports LightingWe responded to a request from University of Maryland (UMD) for better lighting functionality than the existing metal halide fixtures at the Xfinity Center, home of the UMD Terrapins. The problem was that the old lighting was terrible for TV camera footage, and UMD needed a better solution before the freshman orientation ceremony. LMI retrofitted the basketball arena lights.
The project consisted of taking down over 200 existing fixtures (metal halide and halogen), installing 76 LED fixtures, and hoisting 50 pound old and new fixtures 80’ up to the cat walk (the most strategic part of the project).
