We embarked on a journey to assist in transporting NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope from Andrew’s Air Force Base to the NASA Goddard Space Center. LMI was given the responsibility of lifting any low hanging cables so the 16’7” tall, 126’ long, 146,500 lbs. space telescope could pass safely underneath. Although this was a new type of service for LMI, our highly skilled technicians were able to quickly adapt to each situation to keep the convoy rolling through multiple back roads and I495. Our well choreographed efforts were appreciated by NASA and the transporting company.
The telescope is a replacement for the Hubble Space Telescope and is projected to be launched into outer space in the year 2018. We wish the telescope a continued safe voyage to space
