Our traffic signal crew cut and installed traffic signal inductive loop detectors in Frederick County, Maryland. An inductive loop is a coil of wire embedded in the road’s surface which senses the weight of a vehicle and tells the signal to change. To install the loop, our crews cut a groove in the asphalt with a diamond saw, placed wire in the groove and sealed it with a rubbery compound. You can often see these big rectangular loops cut in the pavement because the compound is obvious. Having detectors greatly increases the efficiency of traffic signals.
